Interviews with Local Residents
March 12, 2010
Joe Hagan was born in Brooklyn, New York. Between the ages of two and three, he moved to Tuckerton, New Jersey. Mr. Hagan attended both Tuckerton Elementary and Southern Regional schools. He said his favorite childhood memory was having the chance to grow up in the town of Tuckerton. Joe Hagan was raised as a Catholic. Things he enjoyed to do as a child were to go swimming and ice skating at the same lake, fishing and occasionally getting into trouble. His best friend, Ronnie Miller, was that friend with whom he always got into trouble. Mr. Hagan mentioned that they were the first two kids to be suspended from Tuckerton Elementary. As he grew up, at the age of eleven, the first job he had was at a horse farm. Although he was paid one dollar a day, Mr. Hagan received free lunch and was able to ride the horses after hours for free. Mr. Hagan currently lives in Waretown but is still able to recognize the expansion of Tuckerton and all of the changes school systems have made. He mentioned attending Stockton, Ocean County College and the College of New Jersey, as well as serving in the army. Tuckerton was also called Fishtown and Clamtown due to main activities taking part in this area. Mr. Hagan was full of information and knowledge and he was very willing to share all of it with me.
