Anna Stevens was born on January 30, 1932. She lived in Jersey City until she moved to Tuckerton in 1953. She married Joseph C. Stevens Jr. of Tuckerton N.J. She has three children: Joseph C. Stevens III, Anne McMullen and Susan M. Stevens who passed away in 1992. Her children went to the Tuckerton Elementary School and graduated from Southern Regional High School, except for Susan, because Pinelands Regional was built while Susan was in high school.
Anna’s earliest memory was going to kindergarten at St. Michael’s in Jersey City. Her class was very large. In Jersey City there was a large theater. When she came to Tuckerton in 1953, there were hardly any houses or people but now that has all changed. Even though there are more people, she thinks this is good because she is very sociable and likes to go to church. Her family was big; she was one of nine children. Anna was of Irish descent. Both of her parents came directly from Ireland. Her dad worked for the Railway Express.
Anna has a lot of friends and is catching up with them in Tuckerton now. Her first job was in New York at Hartford Insurance Company. She made $15 per week. Anna did not go to college. Her favorite meal is corn beef and cabbage. Her favorite sports team is the Yankees, and her favorite player is Derek Jeter.
